Surprise no.1: This gorgeous blonde is half Filipino.  Ferocious.

Surprise no. 2: She’s not a natural blonde.

But who cares!  Cara sure gives bottle blondes a good name.  If you’re going to do the bottle, do it right.  Thank you Cara for showing us how it should be done.

Don’t know if you can also see it, but I think we have a baby Elizabeth Berkley here!

Cara Eastman, 20 years old, High Wycombe, Perth. I work as a flight attendant with Qantaslink and study Psychology and Criminology full time.

What is your motivation in joining this competition?

My aim in joining this competition is to succeed and represent the multiculturalism of this country, as I am half Philippine half Australian.

What do you know about Miss Universe Australia?

Miss Universe Australia is a fantastic competition that promotes health, beauty, humanity and intelligence. It is imperative that the girls involved in the competition meet all the expectations.

Are pageants still relevant in this day and age?

I believe it depends on the type of pageant. Many people make the inaccurate assumption that the Miss Universe Competition is just a beauty pageant, and fail to see what it actually promotes and the benefits it gives to society. This competition devotes extensive time to great causes in need of help.

Apart from the crown, what do you hope to gain from this experience?

So far I have gained confidence, life long friendships and satisfaction through helping others, so anything else I gain from here is a bonus.

Who are your role models?

I know everyone answers by saying their mother is their role model, but I honestly couldn’t choose a more inspirational or influential person. My mum grew up in the Philippines, a poverty stricken country, and was one of the eldest of 12 siblings. She sacrificed her own education and youth to give the rest of her family the opportunity to be educated and have a bright future.

Tell me something interesting about yourself.

I was a competitive cheerleader for 10 years, where I traveled interstate and internationally for competitions. My team the Perth Angel were undefeated champions for many years and our greatest achievement was placing Australia 6th out of 21 countries at the World Cheerleading Championships in 2007.

What kind of preparations have you gone through for the competition?

The Miss Universe competition in Western Australia offers a superior program to ensure us girls are completely prepared for all aspects of the competition. We have been given Pilates and boxing sessions, which allows the perfect mix of cardio, flexibility and core strength. We have attended nutrition, walking, hair and makeup workshops, which helps us achieve the “Miss Universe Look”. The top 24 also receives the chance to learn about self-image through Egami Style Image Consulting, which helps the girls portray their strengths on stage and answer our questions confidently.
